Chicken Soup for You!

Keeping it simple this week on account of I got myself a bit of a cold.

I got myself stocked up with chicken soup, though. You know that chicken soup is recommended when you have a cold, but do you know why? To make the stock, the chicken bones are cooked for a few hours, giving time for minerals like zinc, calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium to seep into the broth. Veggies like celery, onion, carrots, leeks, parsnips, or turnips… all of their vitamins and minerals seep into the liquid too. I put a ton of garlic and ginger in mine - both of which have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties - and also spicy stuff like chili peppers, which contain capsaicin, a chemical that can thin mucus and relieve congestion. Also, sipping hot liquids can help relieve congestion and prevent dehydration.

I’m no doctor, but I’m all about natural healing through good food. Stay tuned for an incoming email about Food and other Provisions for Wellness. Meanwhile, let me know if you need some chicken soup - I got you covered!
